Project #4: Perspective

This was for project 4: perspective. The mediums are acrylic and felt-tip pen.

I picked this project because I needed something easy that I liked. Perspective is very difficult, especially to replicate, so I needed something that I could re-create easily.

The part of this project that could use the most work is the letters themselves. I had a hard time getting the perspective right, and it was difficult to paint around the letters. I do think it looks okay, but more practice with perspective would've been better.

Project 6 - Abstract

This is the abstract project (project #6). The mediums used were felt tip pen and acrylic paint.

My inspiration for this mask was the objects that define me project 1 option. I really enjoy theatre and even though I didn't use this for that project I wanted to use it another time. Since masks are abstract I decided to use this picture.

I think the mask itself turned out really well. Although I ended up not being able to use pen for all of it like I originally planned, I think the paint looks even better. The only thing I don't particularly like is the purple background. I tried to do the entire thing in colored pencil but it didn't work so I had to paint over it. This made the purples different and it's still visible, but not awfully. You can also see the brush strokes because the bristles on the brush were too coarse, but otherwise it's okay.

Next time I would use only one medium (for an area... like only one medium for the background). I would also pick a softer brush.

Artist's Style

This is a drawing for project 3, Artist's style. My medium was colored pencil, and my inspiration is the street artist Banksy. I picked this option because I like that Banksy uses his art to make a statement and get people to think, and I wanted my art to do the same thing.

The most successful aspect of this piece is the Sims "diamond". I really like the coloring and shading on it, and it looks very similar to the real logo. The earth is least successful because it looks quite streaky and there is an obvious contrast in the strength of the globe compared to the diamond. It is also difficult to get the color right, because it gets dark very easily.

Color Project

This was for the color project, and I drew a pear using oil pastel. (My color scheme was complementary.) I picked a pear for my final project because I like the way fruit looks in oil pastel and it's simple to do but looks very detailed and complicated. Oil pastel is good for blending and much easier to deal with than paint.

The most successful aspect of this project was the shading/tints in the pear and the highlighting. Using certain colors and using certain strokes creates a rounded look and gives it more dimension. I also learned that the strokes are very important in creating a shape and that they have to be light enough to not see specifically but dark enough to cover the paper surface completely.
